ALL ABOUT LAB-GROWN FOOD!
Hello guys! This is your boffin daydreamer, returning after a long time. Today, I am here to bring an interesting topic which is surely going to blow your mind if you already don’t know about it.
As you all know, this is an era of science. Due to the development in science and technology, we have made everything artificially. I am not only talking about abiotic resources, but also about biotic resources. Well, if you don’t understand, you must know that science has made it possible to grow food in lab. Let me emphasise that. Food from labs. Yes, you heard it right.
Labs have had constantly worked on improving the production of food products on limited piece of land by science. They came up with fertilisers, pesticides, insecticides and so on and so forth. At one point of time, scientists thought ‘Why not make food itself in the labs?’ And that is what they exactly did.
Presently, we have made man-made meat. This was done by taking one stem of muscle from the animal, which was then allowed to grow at some appropriate conditions. By this, meat could be consumed by not killing the animal. And we can make more than 30 kg of meat from a mere animal of 4 kg. Economical, you must admit that. At start, this type of meat was so costly that no one wanted to try it. But now, it is much more cheaper than the ‘natural’ meat. Scientist constantly evolved it to make it even better. At first, the consumers complained that the meat was bit dry. So, scientist made the meat more juicier. Also to mention. These lab-grown food have the same nutritional value like that of the natural food.
This way, meat is becoming vegetarian.
Anyways, beverages like coffee is also made in labs. This is so cost-effective that the price of the lab-foods is much low then the natural products. This has many advantages then actually growing food crops.
- Availability will no longer depend on climate. We might even grow rubber in Antarctic (FYI, Rubber is a tropical crop).
- We can make the production limitless as the production will no longer depend on land availability, which is limited.
From all this, we can say that lab-food is the future. In fact, Singapore has already approved the lab-grown meat.
But as we know that everything has an evil face. So, here are some disadvantages the world would have to face if it incorporates lab-food production.
- There are many people who are directly dependent on agriculture and many more who are indirectly dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. If we switch to lab-food production then we would have to provide employment to all these people in any other sector.
- For the production of lab-grown food, we need scientists. So, the world would face shortage of scientists in other fields of science and hence, the pace of development of other fields of technology and science would rapidly decline.
At last, I would like to say that we can use science to ease our life. But using science to defy the laws of nature would be disastrous and can even end the mankind. So, we must be careful while using science.
So Informative. Keep writing and looking forward for more such blogs.
